- If you hold a recognized trade certificate, you are eligible to work in Alberta without additional exams, training, or registration.
Is Your Certificate Recognized in Alberta?
- Use the search tool below to see if your trade certificate is recognized in Alberta, if it was issued by:
- another Canadian province or territory, another Canadian province or territory
- a country outside Canada, or a country outside Canada
- the Department of National Defence – Canada (DND)

For Employers: Verifying a Trade Certificate
- If the issuing province or territory informs you the certificate does not appear to be authentic, contact us .
- Contact the issuing jurisdiction to see what their process is for releasing information, including what consent the client must provide for that authority to release any information.
- If needed, get the certificate holder’s written permission to request verification.
- Find links to other Canadian issuing jurisdictions here (bottom of page). here
- Confirm the certificate holder’s legal name (spelled correctly) and date of birth.
- Take copies both sides of the certificate.
- Email the information to the issuing province or territory and request official verification.
